Why is the shipping cost so high for international shipping?
I’ve gone through extensive research to figure this out on your behalf and worked hard to get the shipping costs as low as possible. With that being said, here are the reasons why international shipping is expensive.
1. The book's dimensions & weight. The book is about 4-5 lbs. and is 9x12 in… I went all out in creating this product and chose the best printer, materials, and paper for this guide. This means the book is downright heavy. Shipping anything heavy internationally is expensive.
2. Covid-19 increased international shipping rates. As of September, shipping rates have increased further beyond the high costs that they were charged during summer. Shipping & fulfillment companies everywhere have increased their costs due to additional Covid-19 surcharges that have been implemented industry-wide.
3. Fulfillment companies are extra cautious during Holiday Season this year. The holiday season is when the majority of companies fulfill their newly released products. As a result, Holiday season shipping prices tend to go up due to the demand for shipping. The book's shipping cost is high with every fulfillment company during this period of time. I met with fulfillment companies from Europe & Asia to see if I could get reduced rates for international shipping; the shipping rates they gave me were still expensive. barely a change from what I received from U.S fulfillment companies. If I were to wait for the shipping costs to go down (No guarantee that they will), it may be well into May 2021 before you would get your books.

What are my options if I don’t want to pay for international shipping?
If you do not want to pay for international shipping and deal with all the hurdles of customs, I highly recommend you switch your pledge to the $19 digital reward tier. I gave this option earlier during the Kickstarter Campaign knowing that this would be the best alternative and answer I have for international shipping. Even though you may not be getting the physical book in your hands, the digital copy will still contain all the information to help you on your journey to become a successful illustrator. This is about you and your success ultimately.
Any funds left over from this swap will be attributed as credit within Backerkit and will be eligible for use on any add-ons for this project.

How do I swap my pledge to a lower tier?
At the very beginning of the survey you have received from Backerkit and right below the “Get Started!” button, there is a little text that says “Switch your pledge level” Click on that and select the reward tier you want to switch to.

When can I expect to get my order fulfilled and at my doorstep?
The books are on being printed as we speak. We are hoping to have them at your doorstep by mid-November. I will be updating you on their progress through Kickstarter updates. Please keep an eye peeled out for those updates. I will update you further if there are any unforeseen delays.

How long do I have to update/change my order before it is locked?
October 31st. On that day, your cards will be charged. You have until then to make any adjustments to your order.

What is your refund policy?
Unfortunately, I will not be giving refunds. I have already used the Kickstarter funds to purchase the order for the books. If you do not want to pay for the absurd international shipping prices, please swap your pledge to the $19 digital e-book. Any funds left over from this swap will be attributed as credit within Backerkit and will be eligible for use on any add-ons for this project.

What about the customs regulations at my country?
Customs restrictions, tariffs, and other regulation costs at customs for your country are not included in your shipping fee for your pledge level. Any of these costs may be a separate additional cost for your pledge later during fulfillment. If you do not want to deal with customs restrictions, tariffs, or other regulations at customs for your country, please swap your pledge to the digital e-book copy. Any funds left over from this swap will be attributed as credit within Backerkit and will be eligible for use on any add-ons for this project.

Can I switch my hard cover signed pledge for a soft cover signed pledge?
The books will ship from another city from a fulfillment center so unfortunately, I will not be able to change any of the rewards as I won’t be handling the books other than 1000 signed hard copies. I will fly out to LA to sign them in one day and then return home. The fulfillment company uses automation to satisfy all orders from the Kickstarter software files so we cannot adjust individual packages outside of the software. The survey software will allow you to change physical book copies to digital copies of the book. It will also allow backers to add a digital, audiobook, and additional hard copies of the book.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
